A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making a diseased or broken down tooth stronger, healthier and giving it the shape of a natural tooth.

A crown is sometimes known as a ‘cap’ as it fits over the remaining part of the tooth and completely covers the outer surface. Although crowns are an ideal restoration for teeth that have been broken, or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling they can also be used to re-shape crooked teeth or to cover unsightly fillings or dark teeth. There are different methods and materials that can be used to make crowns which we will be happy to advise you on at your appointment.
